Useful Information

Rock Star Maths: On a Friday, Pupils will be told the multiplication table/tables, which will feature in the following week’s Rock Star Maths. Please encourage your child to practise these at home. They have individual log in details, which means they can access the TT Rockstars App at home. They will complete a Rock Star maths challenge 4 days a week and aim to improve their time and accuracy.

Reading: In Sun class, we enjoy a positive reading environment in which books are enjoyed and shared by all. Pupils are given daily opportunities to read independently and some pupils will read with an adult. Every child will have two 45-minute sessions of guided reading a week. Please encourage your child to read at home daily although at this age it does not have to be with an adult. Having a love of reading and the ability to read for extended periods of time, is the perfect preparation for the ‘reading SATs’.

Spellings: Spellings will be given weekly and will be learned in school, where staff can give support to methods used, allowing the spellings to be more embedded and used independently in their learning. They will be given a spelling test on a Friday morning. If you would like to support your child with spellings, please see the attached Year 5 and 6 spelling list and select a few of these to work on each week.

PE: For this term, PE will be on a Thursday and Friday afternoon and will take place on the field or playground. Both sessions will be taught by Mr R. Please send your child to school in their PE kit on these days. In cold weather, please make sure their PE kit includes a warm outdoor top and waterproof.

Equipment: In order to minimise the items being brought into school from home your child should bring the following into school: a water bottle, hand sanitiser, reading book and morning snack. They may also bring a small dictionary to keep in their tray. All other equipment they need will be made available in school.
